Vernon Siemelink

Director – Senior Environmental Consultant

Vernon is an ISO 14001 Lead Auditor and environmental professional with over 11 years’ experience in the environmental industry.

Vernon holds a Master's Degree in Environmental Management and an Honours Degree in Geosciences from the University of Pretoria.

Work experience ranges from Environmental Auditing, Due Diligences, Technical Legal opinions, Impact Assessments, Stakeholder Engagement and technical specialist in the mining and manufacturing sectors.

Vernon has also provided quality, environmental, and health and safety consulting and auditing services in nearly every industry sector.

Vernon is a SGS IRCA Certified EMS Lead Auditor and a SETA accredited assessor. He has also completed the CEM auditor conversion training for ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 Integrated Management Systems.

Henno Engelbrecht

Director – Senior Environmental Consultant

With more than 10 years experience in the consulting arena, Henno is an open-minded, friendly and resourceful business and project manager with a sound and optimistic outlook on all things in life.

He possesses an excellent ability to motivate others, coupled with the ability to communicate comfortably at all levels, therefore ensuring an excellent working environment for all members of the team enabling them to perform at their bests.

Henno is self-motivated, competent, enthusiastic, creative, adaptable and advocates a solution driven approach to any challenges to ensure an inspired shared vision.

Carene Kruger

Senior Environmental Consultant – EAP

Carene is a Certified Natural Scientist and has over 11 years’ experience in the environmental industry. Work experience ranges from Environmental Impact Assessments, Stakeholder Engagement, legal opinions and to the management of small to large scale projects.

Projects includes municipal infrastructure, governmental flagship projects (including SKA Meerkat, the Skywalk at God’s Window, PRASA railway infrastructure and the Gautrain Variant Assessment), commercial developments, mining projects and environmental master planning.

Carene has also gained valuable experience on the African continent and further abroad with regards to waste minimization and sustainable development aimed at community upliftment. Carene holds a BSc Hon (Geography) form the University of Johannesburg and is currently completing her Masters in Environmental Sciences at the University of Pretoria.

SW Minnaar

BSc Environmental Science


Environmental Consultant

SW coordinates all Environmental Monitoring and Control (EMC) functions of Eco Elementum with 4 years of experience in the environmental field. He is a competent Environmental Control Officer (ECO) and holds a B.Sc. Environmental Science degree at the University of Pretoria.

He is currently completing his Honours degree in Environmental Management. SW admires the outdoors and enjoys adventure riding and fly-fishing in his free time.

Riana Panaino

BSc Honn Biodiversity and Conservation; SACNASP – Professional Natural Scientist


Senior Environmental Consultant

Riana obtained a BSc degree in Zoology and Botany, and further went on to do her BSc Honn in Biodiversity and conservation. She has also been registered as a Professional Natural Scientist with SACNASP.

With more than 10 years’ experience in the environmental consulting industry she has a firm understanding of Environmental Management. Riana works with Environmental Authorisation Processes (Basic Assessments, Environmental Impact Assessments, Monitoring, Environmental Management Plans, Waste Licence Applications, Closure Application and Integrated Water Use License Applications) in terms of the South African legislative regime.

Suzette Hartzer-Marais

Environmental Legal Compliance

Suzette is a subcontractor responsible for environmental legal compliance.

Suzette Hartzer-Marais is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa and specialises in environmental law. She holds LLB and LLM degrees from the North West University (Potchefstroom Campus). Suzette has almost 10 years’ experience as an environmental legal consultant which includes undertaking environmental legal compliance audits, due diligences, legal reviews, drafting legal opinions, developing legal registers and providing legal advice for companies in various sectors across South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Mali, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania and Zambia.

Chris Ingram

Director – Civil Engineer

Chris Ingram is a registered professional civil engineer and director at Eco Elementum (Pty) Ltd, with more than 12 years’ experience in the engineering industry.

His key experience includes planning, design, project management and co-ordination of water utilisation and water resource projects, which includes; bulk water, mine water, storm water management as well as water and wastewater treatments plants and associated infrastructure.

Chris specialises in the design of passive systems, for the treatment of acid mine drainage and other mine/industrial related effluents.

Chris Fourie

Pr. Eng. B.Eng (Civil)


Associated Director - Civil Engineer

Chris Fourie is a professionally registered Civil Engineer (Pr.Eng) and Associated Director with 12+ years' experience in mining and infrastructure sectors, with special interested in the design of mining waste management facilities.

He has further experience with various mine water related projects, bulk water, water and wastewater as well as government infrastructure projects.

Within these fields, Chris has been involved at various phases of the project life cycle, including planning, feasibility assessment, design and implementation. He has delivered project in South Africa, Angola, Liberia, Swaziland and Mozambique.

Krüg Hamman

Environmental Engineering Technician

Krüg Hamman is a civil engineering technician currently busy with his BTech in Environmental Engineering.

Krüg has gained significant experience in the fields of environmental and civil engineering. His project experience includes status quo investigations, stormwater and waste designs, site supervision and contract administration of various waste management facilities, passive/activate treatment works and storm water management plans and bulk water projects.

Werner Küsel

Pr. Tech. B.Tech (Civil)


Principal Engineer

Werner is a Professional Civil Engineering Technologist with 14 years' post graduate experience in Mine Water and Waste as well as Bulk Water and Sewer Infrastructure projects.

He has extensive experience in stormwater, pollution control facilities and waste designs in the mining industry, bulk water pipelines, treatment plants, reservoirs, pump stations and experience in municipal infrastructure designs for water, sewer, stormwater and internal roads. He has extensive experience as the lead design engineer on various large water related infrastructure and managing design teams.

Keith Mnisi

BSc (Hons) Engineering Geology


Specialist - Waste Design

Keith Mnisi is an engineering geologist that specialise in geotechnics and design of the waste management infrastructure.

Mr Mnisi gained valuable experience working at the Department of Water and Sanitation's (DWS) dam design section under Chief Directorate Engineering Services. He worked under Mr Frans Druyts and Mr Johannes van Zyl in the dam design section investigating foundations and construction materials for dams as well as assisting water use and waste license design reviews. He later on formed part of the design review panel for all waste and water use design approvals in the country under Mr Kelvin Legge.

His experience includes geotechnical investigations, slope stability assessments foundations designs, dam foundations, liner design, understanding of geosynthetics, waste storage facilities, construction and project management.

Pearl Sibisi

Civil Engineering Technician (Water Engineering)

Pearl is a Civil Engineering Technician with 5 years experience in civil and water related projects.

She has gained experience in the design of all mine related stormwater, pollution control facilities and waste designs. She also has significant experience the the design of municipal infrastructure such as water and sewer related infrastructure.

Dawid Van Wyk

Pr. Eng, BEng (Civil), BEng Hons, MEng (Hydraulics)


Dam Engineer

Dawid is a permanently employed sub-consultant of Eco Elementum.

He is a Professional Civil Engineer with more than 40 years of experience. He was a Technical Director with Aurecon and head of the Dams and Hydropower Unit in the Water Group until his retirement in 2014.

He was responsible for projects from the initial client contact through to detailed design, documentation, the tender process and construction supervision through to completion. He is accepted by the Dam Safety Office of the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry, South Africa as an Approved Professional Person (APP) for the design and construction supervision of Category III embankment dams (i.e. dams higher than 30 m) and has designed, supervised and inspected more than hundred embankment dams with heights of up to 115 m in eight countries.

Louis du Plessis

Geotechnical Engineering

Louis is a subcontractor responsible for Eco Elementum's geotechnical investigations and designs.

Louis du Plessis is a professionally registered civil engineer (PrEng) and has an honours degree in engineering (specialising in geotechnical engineering). During his 11+ years of post-graduate experience he has specialised in the field of geotechnical engineering.

Louis has worked on all aspects of this discipline with regards to the inspection, analysis and/or design of slope stability, lateral support for deep excavations, shallow and deep foundations, ground improvement, dam foundations, pavements, materials, impact compaction, geosynthetics, waste storage facilities and geotechnical investigations.

Gerhard Klooster

Electrical Engineer

Gerhard is a subcontractor responsible for Eco Elementum's Electrical Designs.

Gerhard Klooster, a registered Professional Engineer since 1999 and extensive, relevant, experience in the field of Electrical Engineering.

Gerhard has worked on all aspects of this discipline with regards to design, site supervision and contract administration. Among the fields of expertise are wind and solar energy collector plants, protection, instrumentation, building services, data centre, emergency power, EDG, uninterruptable power, UPS, photovoltaic solutions (PV), medium voltage, intermediate voltage and low voltage, reticulation, pump stations (potable, irrigation and waste water), hospital and clinics as well commercial facilities; power station CCGT, shopping centres and offices. Status quo surveys, testing of generator capacity and scope definition for repair, redundancy, available capacity and maintenance of existing facilities and installations. Experienced in incident investigations and project completion facilitation.

Stefan has gained experience in the fields of civil engineering and environmental science. His project experience includes design and site supervision of various waste management facilities and storm water management systems.

Neel Breitenbach is a GIS and Air Quality Specialist at Eco Elementum (Pty) Ltd, with more than 12 years’ experience in the GIS and Air Quality industry.

His key experience includes GIS support for the Environmental Science sector and Air Quality Impact Assessments for dust and particulate matter.

He also has experience in Software development for the Environmental Science sector including Python, JavaScript web applications, and various Databases, including Firebase and Sql.
